A QUITE HOUSE

A QUIET HOUSE

Where little feet once

pattered up and down the stairs,

there is now a quiet house.

Where doors slammed,

laughter spilled,

and voices called, “I’m hungry!”

there is now a quiet house.

Outside, the birds are preparing to fly.

What a mystery

to yearn for the noise

and relish the quiet.

Even the trees know

when to let go

and stand tall.
