A New View

It has taken me a while to put words to our new view. I appreciate that my blog has no deadlines. I can take my time. As I’ve shared before I write this as my creative outlet, my way to process and share from a place of humility and gratitude. I write our story to connect and relate.

We’ve been traveling to Colorado for family vacations for as long as we have been a family to ski, bike, hike and explore the mountains. This year we took a chance with change and decided to stay. We are grateful for our families support in taking this leap.

Last summer was spent anticipating the change and soaking up as much time on and in the lake. We love our life on the lake with our families and friends. It was hard to leave. But Jason and I have talked about living in Colorado since we were teenagers,. The time was right as a family so we decided to give it a try. Mid-August we packed up the cars as we have done many times before and made the trip west. The difference was we packed to stay.

It took us awhile to settle in. The house is unique and certainly is taking some getting use to. We’ve been told it was built in the 80s in a DIY fashion right into the mountain. We are continuing the DIY projects making needed and fun updates. A near by monastery owned it for a while as a retreat center. It completely celebrates the view of the mountains and valley and we do too.

It was hot when we first arrived with no lake to cool off in. We did venture to the river a couple times which was refreshing and different. Being someone that has always lived in Wisconsin, besides for five years of fun in Chicago, the change to living in the mountains is huge.

We had our first snowfall and it was magical. I was especially grateful for how quickly they cleared the mountain roads.

Pepper enjoys the view too and I think she really loves all the new smells.

Blue loves all the hiking and exploring.

And the best part for me is we get to share this experience together. We don’t know yet if we will stay or go. Right now we are full of gratitude, embracing the power of change and enjoying a new view.
