What if this Valentine’s Day holiday wasn’t limited to Hallmark cards, chocolates and couples? What if this Valentine’s Day became an opportunity for heart-fullness? Heart-fullness is another word for mindfulness. The word mindfulness stems from ancient Asian cultures in which the word for mind and heart are the same so we actually could call mindfulness - heart-fullness. What if this Valentine’s Day inspired a Loving Kindness meditation practice cultivating more love and kindness in our world?

I am not a doctor or a scientist. I can only speak from my personal experience and what I can share is that my Loving Kindness meditation practice opens and softens my heart and mind. It provides me a skill and mind set that even in the most challenging circumstances I can pause and try to see the situation with a more clear perspective. I can let go of control and my preferences and remind myself of what is meaningful to me and our inner connectedness. I can go to compassion with more ease for myself and others. It takes practice, lots and lots of practice, and sometimes I am too tired to use these skills. But when I take care of myself I am able to use them and they enable me to live with love.

Science backs up Loving Kindness meditation as a skill that can help reduce stress and anxiety while increasing positive feelings of well being. Isn’t that what we all what? I believe we all deserve to be safe, healthy, happy and to live with ease. So why not try a Loving Kindness meditation and just see what happens?
