Winterland - Book Review

It may still be summer, but I want to share my book review of the book, Winterland. One of the bonuses of working at an independent bookstore is the access to gallies/advance reader copies of books not on the market yet. And for avid readers it is like having incredible inside scope, especially when you read an advance reader’s edition that you love. You just can’t wait for it to go on sale. Winterland, by Rae Meadows was a great read, and I am excited for it to come out this November. I am hoping they maybe redo the cover as I don’t think it draws the reader in to the story of a gymnast in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. Any athlete will appreciate this story and especially if you grew up watching gymnastics in the Olympics with awe and admiration. It is a heart wrenching and inspiring story. Meadows does a beautiful job creating characters that we feel for and cheer for. It is an especially poignant story today as it brings to light communism and democracy and the impact of the government on our lives.
